AuTomato - Easy E2E tests and web automation

Description

Automate your web tasks or make E2E testing easier just by recording your web interaction Record what you do in the browser, then export it as a ready-to-run Playwright, Puppeteer, Cypress or Selenium script — in JavaScript or Python. AuTomato is a test recorder and web automation tool that turns clicks, typing, scrolling and page navigation into clean automation code, so you never have to write an end-to-end test from scratch again. WHY AUTOMATO • Record once, export everywhere — the same recording becomes a Playwright, Puppeteer, Cypress or Selenium script. • JavaScript and Python export for every supported framework. • Replay a recording inside Chrome to check it visually before you ship it — or simply to automate a repetitive web task. • Full control: edit, re-record, group, reorder or delete every captured event. • Handles iframes, popups and multi-tab flows. • Everything runs in your browser — your recordings stay on your machine. HOW IT WORKS 1. Start a recording from the popup and use the website exactly as you normally would. 2. Review and fine-tune the captured events, CSS selectors and assertions. 3. Replay it in Chrome, or export it as test code and drop it straight into your project. FEATURES • Exports: Playwright, Puppeteer, Cypress and Selenium — in JavaScript and Python. • Configurable event tracking: click, dblclick, scroll, keydown, keypress, keyup, pointerdown, pointerup, pointerenter, pointerleave, pointerover and pointerout. Enable exactly the events you need on the settings page. • High-frequency ("locked") events such as pointerover and pointerout are only captured while you hold the ALT key, so your recording never drowns in noise. • Assertions: pause a recording and ALT + click any element to assert on it. Includes "Has Exact Text" (toHaveText) and "Is Visible" (toBeVisible). • Editable CSS selectors: tune the selector strategy per project, including blacklists and regular expressions, so your tests stay stable over time. • Variables: wrap a name in double curly braces — {{variable_example}} — inside any input value and fill it in at replay or export time. • Event chain grouping: collapse a long run of identical events on the same selector into a single step. • Re-record a single step while a replay is running instead of starting all over again. • Replay in the same window or a new one, repeat a replay several times with the same settings, and optionally reset browser data such as cookies and cache beforehand. • Automatic "wait for page" handling in every export, so slow-loading pages do not break your scripts. • Options page to manage all recordings, events and replays in one place. PERFECT FOR • QA engineers who want a head start on an end-to-end test suite • Developers who need a quick regression test without leaving the browser • Product and support teams automating repetitive web tasks • Anyone learning Playwright, Puppeteer, Cypress or Selenium — read the generated code to see how it is done Assertion recording is available and still being expanded. AuTomato is actively developed and your feedback shapes the roadmap, so bug reports, criticism and feature requests are very welcome. WHAT'S NEW Version 0.2.4 • Python export for Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium and Cypress • Every export now ships with a "wait for page" helper that fixes flaky runs on slow pages • Fixed the side panel not opening while replaying slow web pages • Two new assertion types: "Has Exact Text" (toHaveText) and "Is Visible" (toBeVisible) Version 0.2.3 • Added crash and error reporting so bugs get found and fixed faster Version 0.2.2 • Re-record user events while a replay is running • New options page to manage all recordings, events and replays • Recording and replay UI moved into the Chrome side panel, so page CSS can no longer break it • Added Selenium export • Bug fixes and small optimisations Version 0.2.1 • Collapse a chain of identical events on the same CSS selector into a single event — while recording, while replaying or in the popup details page • Run a replay in the same browser window • Repeat a replay several times with the same settings • Tested with Playwright 1.45.0, Puppeteer 22.12.0 and Cypress 13.12.0 Version 0.2.0 • Variables inside input values via double curly braces, for example {{variable_example}} • Reset browser settings before a replay • Variable support added to the Playwright, Puppeteer and Cypress exports • Several replay and export bug fixes Earlier versions (0.1.x) • Cypress export, plus fixes for iframes and popups in the Playwright and Puppeteer exports • Editable events, assertions and CSS selector settings • Edit events live during a replay • Improved CSS selector generation and blacklist handling
