If the cursor is not focused, the extension will attempt to focus it automatically, but manual focusing ensures the smoothest experience. • Check your Microphone: If the transcription is inaccurate, ensure you have selected the correct default input device in your operating system settings. A high-quality USB microphone or headset will yield vastly superior results compared to built-in laptop microphones. • Speak Clearly: Chrome's speech recognition engine performs best with natural, clear speech. You do not need to speak slowly or pause between words; the engine is designed to parse continuous conversation. • Punctuation Commands: You can dictate punctuation in many languages. For example, speaking "comma", "period", "question mark", "exclamation point", or "new line" in English will insert the corresponding character or line break directly into the textarea. --- 🚨 TROUBLESHOOTING & COMMON QUESTIONS Q: Why isn't the extension transcribing my voice? A: The most common cause is a blocked microphone permission. Click the microphone or site settings icon in the left side of Chrome's address bar when on ChatGPT, and ensure "Microphone" is set to "Allow". Additionally, check that your headset or microphone is plugged in and selected as the default input device in your system settings. Q: Will the Spacebar stop working for typing normal spaces? A: No! The extension features intelligent timing detection. If you tap the Spacebar quickly, it behaves exactly like a normal spacebar key and inserts a space. The recording is only triggered if you hold the key down for longer than 250 milliseconds. Q: Does it work with the ChatGPT Plus/Enterprise versions? A: Yes, it is fully compatible with all versions of ChatGPT, including free accounts, Plus accounts, Team accounts, and Enterprise workspaces, as it interfaces directly with the standard prompt input box. Q: Can I edit the text after speaking? A: Absolutely. If you want to review and edit your voice inputs, simply toggle off the "Auto-Submit" option in the settings popup. The extension will type your words into the box, but will not send them. You can then review, make manual edits with your keyboard, and press Enter to send when ready. Q: Why does the voice HUD say "Microphone Access Blocked"? A: Google Chrome requires explicit permission to use your audio capture devices. If you see this warning, Chrome has blocked the site from using your microphone. Go to your Chrome settings, navigate to Site Settings, find `chatgpt.com`, and set the microphone permission to "Allow". Q: Does it work on mobile browsers? A: Currently, Chrome extensions are only supported on desktop versions of Google Chrome (macOS, Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS). This extension will not work on mobile Chrome for iOS or Android. Q: Can I change the shortcut key? A: By default, the extension uses the Spacebar as it is the most ergonomic and easily accessible key. If you wish to use a different key, you can inspect the `content.js` file and adjust the shortcut key binding, or look out for customizable hotkey options in upcoming updates. --- 📬 SUPPORT & COMMUNITY FEEDBACK We are committed to making ChatGPT Voice Control the best voice interface tool available.
