Magpie — private moodboard, screenshot & bookmark collector

Description

Collect images, screenshots and bookmarks into private moodboards on your machine. No account needed; optional paid sync. Magpie is a quiet side panel for collecting images, screenshots, links and text snippets into private boards — stored on your machine, not our cloud. A COLLECTION, NOT A FEED Every save-it-for-later app eventually becomes a destination: a feed to scroll, an algorithm to please, ads dressed up as inspiration. Magpie is a side panel. It opens when you see something worth keeping and disappears when you're done. Nothing scrolls on its own. Nothing refreshes. Nothing wants your attention back. • No feed • No algorithm • No ads • No account needed SEE IT. CATCH IT. MOVE ON. • Right-click any image, selected text, or page → "Catch in Magpie" • Screenshot-clip a region of the page (Cmd+Shift+S / Ctrl+Shift+S) • Pick several images off a page in one pass • Paste or drag files straight into the panel Saving takes one click, filing takes one more, and you're back to what you were doing. EVERYTHING COMES HOME TO YOUR NEST Your whole collection in one calm place: boards with cover images and aggregate color palettes, tags, notes, and search. Every image gets its palette read on your machine — plain color math, no AI required — so you can browse by color or ask for "more like this" and see other clips from your own collection that share a palette. Nothing new is ever introduced; you only ever see what you already caught. Turn on the optional AI helper and Magpie can also title your captures, read the text inside your screenshots, suggest tags, and match searches by meaning ("that greenish poster"). Off by default; more below. PRIVATE, VERIFIABLY Your boards live in your browser's local storage — and, if you flip one switch, as plain files on your disk. "Mirror to files" keeps a live copy of every board in a folder you choose (or a Downloads subfolder): one folder per board, images as ordinary image files, snippets as markdown. Uninstall Magpie and the files are still there. That's not a privacy policy — it's an architecture. • No account required, ever. The free product is the whole product. • No analytics or telemetry in the extension. • Export your entire collection as a zip any time; import restores it anywhere. • Deleting an item hard-deletes its bytes. What leaves your device: nothing, unless you turn something on. The extension's baseline network traffic is fetching an image's bytes when you clip one (only with the optional per-use permission) and loading link-card previews. Turn on AI and the item being processed is sent — a small thumbnail or the snippet text. Sign in and sync, and your boards travel to our servers so your other devices can pull them. Every claim is checkable in DevTools. OPTIONAL AI, TWO WAYS (OFF BY DEFAULT) • Bring your own OpenRouter API key: requests go straight from your browser to openrouter.ai under your own account, with any model you like. We never see your key or your data. • Or let a paid plan handle it: no key, no setup — the managed service runs the same captioning, OCR, tagging and semantic search. Once enabled, new captures are enriched automatically so search just works. Only the item itself is sent — never your browsing, never your other tabs. FREE ON YOUR MACHINE. PAID IF YOU WANT IT EVERYWHERE. • Magpie Free — $0 forever. The whole collector: unlimited boards, unlimited clips, all local, no account. Not a trial. • Magpie Plus — $5.99/mo or $59/yr. Sync across your devices plus the web app at magpie.ee, room for ~15,000 clips (10 GB), and every clip searchable by word, text-inside-images, color and meaning. • Magpie Pro — $12.99/mo or $129/yr. Everything in Plus with 10× the room: ~150,000 clips (100 GB). Local always stays the source of truth. Cancel anytime — every file remains on your machine. KEYBOARD • Cmd+Shift+M / Ctrl+Shift+M — open the panel • Cmd+Shift+S / Ctrl+Shift+S — screenshot-clip the page • Remap anything at chrome://extensions/shortcuts PERMISSIONS, PLAINLY Magpie installs with no host permissions — it cannot read the pages you visit. Each permission maps to a feature you can see: the side panel is the product surface; storage holds your boards; the context menu is the catch button; activeTab + scripting power the screenshot clipper and on-page image picker at the moment you invoke them; downloads writes the optional file mirror. Fetching original image files cross-origin is a separate, optional grant you can decline or revoke — the screenshot and link-card fallbacks work without it.
