Inspect 3D CAD parts with STEP Viewer, a local step file viewer for .stp & .iges. Measure holes, angles and distances in Chrome. 🪝 STEP Viewer: inspect, measure, and open .stp & .iges CAD files right inside Chrome STEP Viewer is a local step file viewer for engineers and buyers who get a .stp file from a supplier and just need to look at it, with no SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or cloud upload. Drop in a .stp, .iges, or .igs part and see real colors, a full assembly tree, and click-to-measure dimensions in seconds. It works online in your browser but runs 100% locally, so your files never leave your computer. 🚀 Quick start: 1. Install STEP Viewer, then click "Add to Chrome" 2. Open a .step, .stp, or .iges file by drag and drop, the file picker, or straight from a ZIP/RAR archive 3. Click a hole or an edge to measure it 4. Get instant dimensions, an assembly tree, and a rotating 3D view Here are 🔟 reasons engineers reach for this stp file viewer: 1️⃣ Opens .step, .stp, .iges, and .igs parts, a true .stp file viewer with no CAD suite required 2️⃣ Drag and drop a CAD file, use the picker, or reopen a recent one 3️⃣ Reads a part straight from a ZIP or RAR archive, no manual unzip 4️⃣ Real part colors, sharp brep edges, studio-grade IBL lighting 5️⃣ Assembly tree lets you show, hide, or isolate any single part 6️⃣ Click-to-measure: hole diameter, distance between two points, face angle, in mm or inches 7️⃣ Section cut slices the model open to see inside 8️⃣ Explode slider pulls an assembly apart to inspect the fit 9️⃣ Turntable recorder saves a rotating video, measurements included 🔟 Runs as a side panel or a full tab, and warns before a huge assembly loads 📐 Inspection without a CAD license ➤ A supplier sends a .stp file, the CAD seat is booked, and an Autodesk-grade suite takes twenty minutes to check one bolt-hole diameter. STEP Viewer opens the same part in seconds, straight from your downloads folder. ➤ The assembly tree lists every part by name, so you isolate the one bracket you need without hiding the rest by hand. ➤ A fast stp reader for reviewing quotes, and a free step file reader for double-checking a vendor's model before it reaches the machine shop. 🔒 Built for NDA-sensitive files Supplier CAD models often sit under an NDA, so uploading a part to a random web tool is a non-starter. STEP Viewer never uploads anything: every .stp, .iges, or .igs file is parsed and rendered on your machine, offline from the moment it loads. No account, no server, no cloud copy. 📏 Measure-snap, the flagship feature - Click near a round edge for the hole diameter instantly, with no manual radius math - Click two points anywhere on the part for the distance between them, center to center on two holes - Click two flat faces for the angle between them - Switch mm and in on the fly; the info panel also lists part count, solids, and bounding-box size Most free stp file viewer tools only orbit and zoom. STEP Viewer measures instead, so teams keep it open as their default stp reader before touching a full CAD license to pull one number. 🎬 Rendering, assemblies, and a recorder ▸ Colors come straight from the CAD file, with automatic shading as a fallback, also a quick stp online viewer ▸ Brep edges stay crisp at any zoom, so fillets read clearly instead of blurring into mesh ▸ Turntable recorder spins any part into a 3d step viewer clip, a quick step preview to share ▸ A staged, honest load bar with a cancel button keeps large assemblies from freezing the tab STEP Viewer opens IGES and IGS files with the same tools: assembly tree, measure-snap, section cut, and turntable recorder. A lightweight iges viewer is bundled in, so nobody installs a separate iges file viewer for legacy parts. ❓ Frequently asked questions 📌 How to view step files without installing CAD software? 💡 Add STEP Viewer to Chrome, then drag a .stp or .step file into the tab or side panel to open step file parts, with no SolidWorks or Fusion 360 needed. 📌 Is my CAD file uploaded anywhere? 💡 No. This is a fully local step file viewer, so parsing and rendering happen in your browser and the file never leaves your computer. 📌 Can I measure a hole diameter or the distance between two points? 💡 Yes. Click near an edge for diameter, or click two points for distance; face angles work the same way, in mm or inches. 📌 Does it handle assemblies with many parts? 💡 Yes. The assembly tree lists every part to show, hide, or isolate, and the explode slider pulls them apart. 📌 Is there a free step file viewer option? 💡 Yes.
