Description
Color-coded date badges on every ChatGPT chat — Created, Last Updated, or Both. Smart, Relative & Absolute formats. 100% private. 📅 Chat Timeline – See Exactly When Every AI Conversation Happened Tired of scrolling through your ChatGPT history with no idea when a conversation happened? Can't tell if that chat was from last week, last month, or last year? Chat Timeline fixes that instantly. This extension automatically displays clear, readable date timestamps above every conversation in your ChatGPT sidebar — so you can find any chat in seconds without guessing. 🎯 What It Does Chat Timeline reads the real creation and last-update timestamps for each conversation directly from the ChatGPT interface and displays them as neat, color-coded badges above every chat title. No configuration required — install and it just works. ✨ Key Features 📆 Automatic Date Stamps Timestamps appear automatically above every conversation in your sidebar. No clicks, no setup. Works as soon as you open ChatGPT. 📅 Show When a Chat Was Created See the exact date your conversation was first started — not when it was last replied to. This is the real creation date, displayed accurately for every chat. ↻ Show When a Chat Was Last Updated Prefer to know the last activity date? Switch to "Last Updated" mode to see when each chat was most recently replied to or renamed. 📅 + ↻ Show Both Dates Simultaneously Enable "Both" mode to display two stacked badges per conversation — one green badge for the creation date and one blue badge for the last updated date. Never lose context again. 🕐 Three Date Format Modes Choose the format that works for you: → Smart Mode (recommended): Relative for recent chats, full date for older ones — "Yesterday · 22 Apr 2026", "15 Jan 2026" → Relative Mode: Always shows how long ago — "38d ago", "3mo ago", "2y ago" → Absolute Mode: Always shows the full date — "15 Jan 2026" (year always included) 🌙 Full Dark Mode Support Seamlessly adapts to light and dark themes to match your ChatGPT interface perfectly. ⚡ Lightweight & Fast Zero noticeable performance impact. The extension runs quietly without slowing down your browser or ChatGPT. 🎨 Customizable Badge Size Choose Small, Medium, or Large badge size — whatever fits your screen and preference. 🔄 Auto-Refresh & Smart Caching Timestamps refresh automatically. A built-in cache means fast loading on repeat visits. Hit "Refresh" in the popup anytime to force a fresh data fetch. ⚡ Instant Settings Change Switching between date formats or date types (Created / Updated / Both) instantly re-renders all badges — no page reload needed. 📅 Date Formats Explained | Mode | Example Output | |-----------------|------------------| | Smart | Yesterday · 22 Apr 2026 | | Smart | 15 Jan 2026 | | Relative | 38d ago | | Relative | 3mo ago | | Absolute | 22 Apr 2026 | 🔒 Privacy First – Zero Data Collection We take privacy extremely seriously. This extension: ✅ Collects NO personal data whatsoever ✅ Uses NO tracking, analytics, or telemetry ✅ Sends data to NO external servers — ever ✅ Runs 100% locally inside your browser ✅ Never reads, stores, or transmits your conversation messages ✅ Only accesses timestamp metadata (creation time, last update time) — nothing else Your conversations are private and remain private. We never see them, never access them, and never store them. 💡 How To Use 1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store 2. Visit chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com 3. Log in to your account 4. Date badges appear automatically in your sidebar ✓ Optional customization: Click the Chat Timeline icon in your Chrome toolbar to: → Switch between Created / Last Updated / Both date display modes → Change the date format (Smart / Relative / Absolute) → Adjust badge size → Manually refresh timestamps 🛠️ Permissions Explained We believe in complete transparency: → Site Access (chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com) Required to inject the timestamp badges into the conversation sidebar. Without this, the extension cannot display any dates. → Storage Used only to save your preferences (date format, badge size, display mode) locally on your device. Your preferences never leave your browser. → Tabs Used to instantly apply setting changes (like switching date format) to your open ChatGPT tabs without requiring a page refresh. ❓ Frequently Asked Questions Q: Does this extension read my conversations or messages? A: Absolutely not. The extension only accesses timestamp metadata — specifically when a conversation was created and when it was last updated. Your actual chat messages are never read, accessed, or stored in any form. Q: Will this slow down ChatGPT? A: No. The extension uses smart caching and only injects lightweight visual elements. Performance impact is negligible. Q: Where does the date data come from? A: The extension reads timestamp information from the ChatGPT interface that is already available during your logged-in session — the same data your browser already has access to when you use ChatGPT. Q: Does it work on mobile? A: No. This is a Chrome desktop extension for the web version of ChatGPT only. Q: Is it free? A: Yes — completely free. No subscriptions, no premium tier, no hidden costs. Q: What if dates aren't showing? A: Make sure you are logged in to ChatGPT. Then click the Chat Timeline icon and press "Refresh & Re-fetch Dates". If timestamps still don't appear, refresh the ChatGPT page and wait a few seconds. Q: Why do some badges look slightly different (italic or different color)? A: Green badges show the real creation date fetched from the API. Blue badges show the last-updated date. Italic badges are estimates based on ChatGPT's own sidebar date groups (shown while the real API data is loading). ⚠️ Disclaimer Chat Timeline is an independent, community-developed browser extension created to improve the user experience of AI chat platforms.
