Wind dashboard for your new tab — kitesurfing, sailing, windsurfing and more WindTab — Wind conditions in every new tab. Stop checking forecasts. Start glancing. WindTab replaces your browser's new tab page with a live wind dashboard. Every time you open a new tab, you instantly see conditions across all your spots — no apps to open, no sites to load, no logins. Just wind data, always there. Built for kitesurfers, windsurfers, sailors, and anyone whose plans depend on the wind. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ HOW IT WORKS Add your spots (up to 8 locations worldwide), set your ideal wind range in knots, and WindTab does the rest. Every new tab shows: • A color-coded forecast row for each spot — 14 days at a glance • A world map with your spots plotted, colored by the selected day's conditions • A day slider to scan through the forecast — slide to any day and the map updates • Current wind speed and direction for each spot • A clock, date, and your favorite quick links The color system is simple: Green = rideable session (90+ min in your wind range) Gold = best session (180+ min of ideal wind) Red = storm/overpowered conditions Gray = too light, no usable window You set the thresholds. WindTab evaluates every day against YOUR range — not some generic scale. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHY WINDTAB You already open 30-50 new tabs a day. Right now each one shows an empty page or a generic wallpaper. WindTab turns that dead space into passive awareness. No more "let me quickly check Windguru." No more switching between three forecast apps. The wind comes to you — while you work, while you browse, while you plan your week. It takes less than a second to scan your spots. Green dot on Thursday? You know your session is coming. Red dot tomorrow? Stay home. All without breaking your flow. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ FEATURES • Track up to 8 spots anywhere in the world • 14-day color-coded forecast per spot • Interactive world map with spot markers • Day slider to browse forecast day by day • Customizable wind range (min/max knots) and dot colours • Wind speed, gusts, and direction per spot • Quick links with favicons — open in the current tab or a new tab • Settings panel from the toolbar icon • Clock and date • Dark theme designed for all-day use • Data syncs across Chrome instances via your Google account • Instant loading — renders from cache, refreshes in the background • Hourly automatic forecast updates • No account required, no signup, no login ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ FAST AND PRIVATE WindTab loads in under 200ms from local cache. It never blocks your new tab with a spinner or loading screen. All your data stays in your browser. WindTab fetches forecasts directly from Open-Meteo (a free, open-source weather API) using only the coordinates of your spots. No personal data is collected, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies. Your spots and preferences sync across devices through Chrome's built-in sync — WindTab never sees your Google account. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHO IS THIS FOR • Kitesurfers tracking conditions across travel destinations • Windsurfers monitoring their local break and weekend spots • Sailors planning passages or checking harbor conditions • Wing foilers, paragliders, and anyone wind-dependent • Digital nomads who live in a browser and chase wind seasons • Anyone who checks Windguru, Windy, or Windfinder multiple times a day ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WindTab is not a replacement for deep forecast tools — it's a complement. Glance here, deep-dive there. The fastest way to know if it's worth checking the full forecast today. Weather data provided by Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com).
