Description
Pro video controls for Instagram & Reels: progress bar, volume memory, speed, PiP, fullscreen, fit-to-screen, themes & shortcuts. Transform Instagram's video player into a full-featured media experience. Instagram Augmenter adds professional-grade video controls to Instagram, giving you the same level of control you expect from YouTube or other major video platforms. No more muted videos, no more fixed playback speeds, no more cropped Reels, no more screen recordings to keep a clip you love - take full control of your viewing experience. Save Photos & Videos Keep the posts that matter without screen recording or third-party sites: • One-Click Download - Save the photo, video, Reel, or story frame you're currently viewing without leaving Instagram. • Carousel-Aware - Downloads the slide actually in view, not the first one in the carousel. • Download All (Carousels) - Save every photo in a multi-image carousel in one click instead of saving each slide individually. • Reels & Long-Form Video - Captures the real video file by mirroring the stream as it plays, so you save the source instead of a screen recording. • Save Status in the Filename - Partial captures are flagged so you can re-save after letting the clip play through, and Reels missing their separate audio track are marked so muted exports are never a surprise. • Keyboard Shortcut (Experimental) - Press D to save whatever you're watching. • Older Post Fallback - For posts the extension can't reach directly, the in-app hint reminds you that right-click then "Save image as" still works. Enhanced Video Controls A beautiful, intuitive control bar appears on every Instagram video and Reel: • Progress Bar - See exactly where you are in the video with a draggable progress indicator. Jump to any point instantly. • Seek Preview Thumbnails (Experimental) - Hover the progress bar and a small tile shows the exact frame at that timestamp, on feed videos and Reels alike. Still experimental and refined over time - enable it from the popup to scrub with a clearer view. • Time Display - View current position and total duration (e.g., "0:45 / 2:30") on feed videos and Reels. • Closed Captions - Adds a CC button on videos that provide a subtitle track. • Smart Auto-Hide (Configurable) - Controls fade away after inactivity and reappear when you hover or interact; toggle it off or tune the delay to taste from the popup. • Works Everywhere - Regular posts, Reels, and Stories all get the same great controls. Controls Theme & Transparency Make the control bar look the way you want: • Transparent Theme (Default) - A frosted, low-profile bar that lets the video breathe. • Classic Theme - A solid black bar in the YouTube style if you prefer maximum contrast. • Transparency Slider - Dial the bar's presence in from 0-100% with a percentage you can type directly. • Substantial Backing at Low Transparency - Push the slider down and the bar gains a uniform frosted backdrop so it still reads as a proper control bar instead of fading away. • Reset Button - Snap back to the default look in one click. Fit Video to Screen Stop missing what's outside the crop: • Letterbox Mode - Show the whole video with thin black bars instead of Instagram's default top/bottom crop. • Works on Reels and feed videos - Wide-aspect clips display their full frame, vertical Reels are unchanged. • On by Default - Enabled out of the box so wide clips show their full frame straight away; toggle it off in the popup if you prefer Instagram's crop. Volume Management Never deal with Instagram's frustrating default muted videos again: • Volume Slider - Fine-grained control from 0-100%. • Volume Memory - Your preferred volume is saved and applied automatically to all videos. • Auto-Unmute - Start every video at your chosen volume instead of muted. • Click-to-Edit - Click the percentage to type an exact volume value. • Volume Protection - Prevents Instagram from resetting your volume settings. Playback Speed Control Watch content at your own pace: • 8 Speed Options - 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, or 2x. • Default Speed Setting - Set your preferred speed and it applies automatically to all videos. • Speed Persistence - Your chosen speed carries over as you browse. • Reset on New Session (optional) - Choose whether your remembered volume and speed carry over forever or reset each time you restart your browser. Picture-in-Picture Continue watching while you browse: • Pop videos out into a floating window. • Watch while using other tabs or applications. • Standard browser PiP support. • Auto-PiP on Scroll (Experimental) - Automatically pop a playing video into a floating miniplayer when it scrolls off screen, so it keeps playing while you browse. Fires only right after you tap the video. Fullscreen Mode Expand any Instagram video to fill your entire screen for an immersive viewing experience - pairs with Fit Video to Screen for letterboxed, uncropped playback. Click anywhere on the video to play or pause without hunting for the control bar. Hover to Maximize Media Fill the screen with a post without opening it: • Rest and Expand - Hover a feed photo or video and it blows up to fill the screen; move the cursor off it or press Esc to put it back. • Video Keeps Playing - A maximized video carries on with its full control bar; click it to play or pause in place. • Zoom and Pan - Scroll to zoom the enlarged media and pan around without losing your place. • What Clicking Does - Choose what a click on an enlarged photo does: open the post (the default) or zoom in a step. Scrolling zooms either way. • Carousel-Aware - Step between slides inside the maximized view, with a dot row marking the slide you are on. • Caption on the Picture - The post's own caption sits inside the top edge of the maximized media. Brush either it or the dot row with the cursor and it slides out of the way so nothing covers the photo. • Profile Grid Tiles - Extend the same gesture to a profile grid, where every tile is only a small crop of a much larger photo. • Open the Post - Jump from the maximized view straight into the full post when you want the comments. • Instant or Delayed - Tune how long the cursor has to rest before it opens, or skip the grow-in animation entirely. • Pick Where It Activates - Enable it per surface: home feed, opened posts, profile pages, and everywhere else (Explore, search, messages). • Off By Default - Opt in from the popup. Background Playback Keep audio playing when the tab loses focus - useful for listening to long Reels while you work. Explore Grid Controls By default, the hover-preview videos in the Explore and profile grids stay silent so they never play sound over a post you open. Prefer the full control bar on those previews too? Turn on Explore Grid Controls in the popup. Story Playback Tap or click anywhere on a story to play or pause it in place - no need to reach for the progress bar. Story videos also start muted and unmute the moment you hover or click them, so opening Stories never blasts sound - turn off Mute Stories Until Hovered in the popup if you would rather they play with sound straight away. Respects your master on/off toggle like every other feature. Loop Reels & Stories Repeat the current Reel or Story instead of jumping to the next one when it ends - handy for rewatching a favorite clip on a loop. Auto-Scroll to Next Post Let the feed carry you along without touching the mouse: • Ends and Advances - The moment a video ends, move on to the next post or Reel instead of letting it replay. • Countdown First - A ticking badge counts down the last few seconds, so nothing moves on before you have seen it. • Easy to Cancel - Stop the scroll with the badge's button, with Escape, or by touching the player. • Stops at Photos - In the feed the chain stops at the first photo post, so it never runs away with you. • Show the Countdown (optional) - Turn the badge off to advance with nothing drawn over the video; Escape and touching the player still cancel. On by default. • Off By Default - Opt in from the popup. A-B Loop Repeat just the part you care about: • Mark Two Points - Press I to set the loop start and O to set the end; playback repeats that stretch until you clear it. • Visible Markers - Both points are drawn on the progress bar so you can see the loop you set. • One Key to Clear - Press X to drop the loop and return to normal playback. • Off By Default - Opt in from the popup. Collapse Sponsored Posts Keep the feed moving: • Fold Ads Away - Feed posts marked "Sponsored" shrink to a thin bar you can scroll straight past, or expand if you do want a look. • Clearly Marked - Collapsed posts are labelled rather than silently removed, so you always know what was folded. • Off By Default - Opt in from the popup. Auto-Expand Captions Read the whole caption without hunting for "more" - long captions expand by themselves as the post scrolls into view. Off by default; opt in from the popup. Keyboard Shortcuts Power users will love the comprehensive keyboard controls: Playback: • Space or K - Play/Pause • Left Arrow - Seek back 5 seconds • Right Arrow - Seek forward 5 seconds • , or . - Step one frame back or forward while paused Audio: • M - Mute/Unmute • Up Arrow - Volume up 5% • Down Arrow - Volume down 5% Display: • F - Toggle fullscreen • P - Picture-in-Picture Speed: • < - Decrease speed • > - Increase speed Loop: • I - Set the A-B loop start point • O - Set the A-B loop end point • X - Clear the A-B loop Save: • D - Download the photo, video, or Reel currently in view (Experimental) Help: • ? - Show an on-screen cheat sheet of every shortcut; press ? again, Escape, or click away to dismiss it Shortcuts are automatically disabled when you're typing in text fields, so they won't interfere with comments or messages. Instagram's native video player is minimal by design, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for: • Videos starting muted every time. • No way to speed up or slow down content. • No progress bar to see video length. • No frame preview when scrubbing - you have to seek blindly. • No way to save a photo or Reel without screen recording or a third-party site. • No keyboard shortcuts for efficient browsing. • No picture-in-picture support. • Reels that crop your favourite videos top and bottom. • No way to see a feed photo at full size without opening the post. Instagram Augmenter solves all of these frustrations while maintaining a clean, unobtrusive interface that feels native to Instagram's design. Permissions Explained • Storage - Save your preferences and settings locally. • Alarms - Schedule background tasks like notification polling and metric flushing. • Scripting - Inject the player controls into Instagram pages. • Downloads - Save photos, videos, Reels, and story frames to your computer when you use the download button. • Site access (instagram.com, cdninstagram.com, fbcdn.net) - Add video controls to Instagram pages and fetch media files directly from Instagram's CDN when you save something.
