Export Grok conversations to clean Markdown with optional local assets. Grok to Markdown — Export AI Chats Export Grok chats and back up your Grok history as clean, portable Markdown files directly from Chrome. Save conversations, citations, images, and attachments into a searchable local AI archive. Your exported Markdown files work with Obsidian, VS Code, Git repositories, and any Markdown-based knowledge workflow. No cloud sync. No vendor lock-in. Your AI conversations stay as files you own. KEY FEATURES EXPORT GROK CONVERSATIONS • Export the current Grok chat with one click. • Export multiple opened Grok conversations in one batch. • Back up the latest history page or load your complete Grok archive. LOCAL AI ARCHIVE • Save conversations directly through Chrome Downloads. • Keep portable Markdown files on your own device. • No scheduled cloud sync and no analytics tracking. SEARCH, SELECT, AND PREVIEW • Search your loaded Grok history by conversation title. • Select exactly which conversations you want to export. • Preview a chat and export individual messages, only your prompts, or only Grok responses. RICH, PORTABLE MARKDOWN • Preserve readable user and Grok sections, message timestamps, citations, source details, conversation dates, and model metadata when available. • Add useful YAML frontmatter for local knowledge bases and developer workflows. • Keep images and attachments linked with portable relative paths. IMAGES AND ATTACHMENTS • Optionally save generated images, uploaded images, attached files, and Grok-generated files beside each Markdown document. • Keep media organized in dedicated images and attachments folders. RELIABLE EXPORT WORKFLOW • Follow live progress and review saved, skipped, and failed totals. • Cancel an active export and retry failed conversations. • Skip previously exported conversations during batch backups. • Review your most recent export runs and actionable asset warnings. • Connect reliably when any one of multiple open Grok tabs is ready. FLEXIBLE FILE ORGANIZATION • Choose a Chrome Downloads subfolder. • Use title-only, current-date, or original-conversation-date filename patterns. • Review key export settings before starting a batch. BUILT FOR Grok to Markdown helps researchers preserve sources, writers archive drafts, developers keep technical chats in Git repositories, students organize study notes, and knowledge workers build a searchable Markdown knowledge base. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open and sign in to grok.com. 2. Open the Grok to Markdown extension. 3. Export the active chat or opened tabs, or use Download Center for history and selective exports. 4. Choose your folder, filename, image, and attachment preferences, then download your Markdown archive. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS • Downloads permission saves Markdown files and optional assets to your chosen Chrome Downloads folder. • Grok host access finds open Grok conversations and communicates only with matching Grok tabs. • Storage permission keeps preferences, export status, local duplicate markers, and recent run history on your device. • When image downloads are enabled, the extension may briefly use an additional browser capability to retrieve protected Grok assets that cannot be downloaded normally. The extension asks for confirmation before using it and releases it immediately after capture. • Conversation exports are saved locally. There is no recurring synchronization and no analytics tracking. FREE AND PRO Free users can export up to 5 conversations per batch. When “Skip locally downloaded conversations” is enabled, previously exported conversations are filtered before the free allowance is calculated, so repeated backups do not waste the batch limit. An active Pro plan unlocks unlimited conversations per export run. WHAT'S NEW Version 4.0.0 — July 21, 2026 • Rebuilt as a dedicated Grok to Markdown exporter. • Added single-chat, opened-tab, history, complete-archive, and selective export. • Added Markdown preview, message selection, images, attachments, citations, and metadata. • Added export progress, cancellation, retry, duplicate detection, and export history. • Improved reliability across multiple open Grok tabs. • Added Free and Pro plans with privacy-focused account management. Grok to Markdown exports Markdown only. It does not export to HTML, PDF, or Notion, and it does not perform scheduled synchronization. Grok to Markdown is an independent extension and is not affiliated with or endorsed by xAI.
