Lens by Vectored: capture regions and record GIFs with hotkeys, filed into local project folders with a metadata timeline. Lens turns what is on a web page into documentation saved on your own computer. Take a screenshot, record a GIF or MP4, or let your clicks become a numbered step-by-step guide. Everything is written straight into a folder you chose, next to a metadata file that keeps the set self-describing. There is no account, no upload and no server. CAPTURE - A region you drag out, with a size readout accurate on Retina and scaled displays. - The whole visible tab. - A GIF or MP4 recording of a region, up to a length you set. - A walkthrough with no video behind it and no time limit, where every click becomes a step. Short clips can be recorded inside one for the parts a single picture cannot show. EDIT AND SAVE ON ONE SCREEN Pen, text, box, circle, arrow and blur. Crop, rotate and adjust colour. Name the file and add notes beside the picture. Undo covers all of it, including a crop or a rotation. Nothing is written to disk until you press Save. STEP-BY-STEP GUIDES Any recording with clicks in it becomes a guide: a screenshot at the moment of each click, cropped to the control, outlined and numbered. No AI is involved in this. Step text comes from the accessible name a screen reader would announce for the control you clicked, read from the page's own markup. Guides open as a document in their own tab. Markdown sits behind the formatting, so the same text serves both the HTML and the Markdown export, and a toggle drops you into that Markdown when you would rather write it directly. Reorder steps, retitle them, split an animated step back into individual clicks, or replace and re-edit any screenshot. EXPORT AND IMPORT - A self-contained HTML file with every picture inlined and no scripts. One file you can email, and Print to PDF away from a PDF. - Markdown, zipped with its screenshots. - Rich text on the clipboard, for Confluence, Notion or a document. - Every guide in a project at once, as a single archive. Bring a bundle back from a file or a link. Imports are always copies, so nothing on disk is overwritten. "Find guides on disk" lists guides whose folders are present but whose metadata entry is missing, which is also how a lost metadata file is repaired. PRIVATE DATA WARNINGS BEFORE YOU SAVE Passwords, API keys, tokens, JWTs, private keys, email addresses and card numbers that pass a Luhn check are found by rules that read the page's own markup. No AI, no network. They are offered for blurring, never blurred for you. Blur rewrites the pixels rather than covering them, so it stays your decision to make. OPTIONAL AI, OFF BY DEFAULT No model is configured on a fresh install and every AI feature is off. If you want one, configure as many as you like: the browser's own built-in model, a model running on your machine, Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, or any compatible endpoint. Switch between them per message. Each becomes usable only after a test that actually reached it. Requests go from your browser directly to the provider you chose, using your own key. Vectored runs no server and never sees your key, your prompt or the answer. Keys are stored apart from your settings and are never handed to a script running inside a web page. WHERE YOUR FILES GO Into a folder you pick through the browser's own folder picker. Lens can read and write only the folders you have granted. If folder permission has lapsed or none was linked, captures fall back to your Downloads folder and the confirmation message tells you that is what happened. LICENCE Lens is free, and every feature stays free. Nothing is locked, before or after any date. It ships with a built-in licence that runs until 31 December 2026. When that lapses, nothing stops working — the wording of an occasional reminder changes, and that is the whole difference. Images that Lens saves carry a small mark in the bottom-right corner. A licence removes that mark or replaces it with your own, and removes the reminder, which appears at most once a day and is dismissed with a click. Lens is kept going by donations; a licence can be had alongside one. Details are on the licence page linked below. PRIVACY Lens has no server, so there is nothing for your captures to be sent to. Screenshots, recordings and guides are written into your own folder and read back from there. Settings stay in the browser's extension storage. There is no account, no sync of your work and no telemetry. The one exception is an AI model you configure yourself, described above.
