Redact emails, phones, names, and other PII from pasted text using Chrome’s on-device AI. Free, local, no cloud API. PII Remover redacts personal details from text before it lands in a chat box or form. It is free. When your computer supports it, redaction uses Chrome’s on-device Prompt API (Gemini Nano). If that model is still downloading or unavailable, the extension still redacts common patterns such as emails, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, payment-card numbers, and IP addresses. Nothing is sent to a developer server. WHY INSTALL • Avoid pasting a phone number, email, or ID into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and similar tools. • Sanitize text in the popup, then copy, when you want to clean something first. • Run on your device. No subscription and no API key. HOW IT WORKS 1. Install on Chrome 138 or newer (desktop). 2. Open the popup once. Chrome may download the on-device model in the background (a few gigabytes, one time). 3. By default, automatic paste interception is limited to common AI chat sites. You can switch to all sites or a blocklist. 4. Turn protection on or off with the Auto switch in the popup header. The toolbar icon shows a green check when this site is on and a red X when it is paused. 5. When you paste, PII is replaced with placeholders such as [redacted phone number]. You can change that wording in Settings. 6. Need the original once? Right-click the field and choose Paste without redacting. REQUIREMENTS • Chrome 138+ on Windows, macOS 13+, Linux, or Chromebook Plus. • On-device AI needs substantial free disk and either a GPU with more than 4 GB of VRAM or a CPU with 16 GB RAM and 4+ cores. • Pattern-only mode still works when the model cannot load.
