YouTube Ad Skipper: Focus & Dark Mode Introduction In today’s digital age, prolonged screen time is inevitable, but it doesn’t have to come at the cost of eye strain, distractions, or interruptions. Focusis a versatile Chrome extension designed to elevate your browsing experience by combining essential tools for visual comfort, content optimization, and seamless navigation. Focus empowers you to tailor your online environment to your needs. With features like Dark Mode, Red Screen, Ad Skipping, and a Donation Overlay, this extension prioritizes your well-being, productivity, and enjoyment. Key Features 1. Dark Mode: Reduce Eye Strain, Enhance Focus What It Does Dark Mode transforms bright, cluttered webpages into sleek, minimalist interfaces by applying a dark theme. It hides non-essential elements like sidebars, comments sections, ads, and recommendations, allowing you to focus solely on the content that matters. Why You’ll Love It Eye Comfort: The dark background reduces glare, making it easier to read or watch content in low-light conditions. Distraction-Free: Removes visual clutter from platforms like YouTube, ensuring videos take center stage. How It Works Toggle Dark Mode on/off via the extension’s popup. Behind the scenes, Focus dynamically hides distracting elements (e.g., YouTube’s “Up Next” sidebar, comment sections) and locks the video player into full-screen mode for an immersive experience. 2. Red Screen: Customizable Eye Protection What It Does The Red Screen feature overlays your browser with an adjustable red tint, reducing blue light exposure—a known contributor to eye strain and sleep disruption. Why You’ll Love It Adaptable Warmth: Adjust the intensity from a subtle amber glow (ideal for daytime) to a deep red (perfect for nighttime). Non-Intrusive: The overlay blends naturally with your content and doesn’t interfere with interactions. How It Works Enable Red Screen via the popup and use the slider to set your preferred warmth level (0–100%). The overlay applies seamlessly across all tabs, and its transparency ensures readability while protecting your eyes. 3. Ad Skipping: Uninterrupted Content Consumption What It Does Automatically skips ads on YouTube and other supported platforms, letting you enjoy videos, music, and streams without interruptions. Why You’ll Love It Zero Effort: No manual clicking—ads are detected and skipped instantly. Seamless Integration: Works silently in the background, even during unskippable ads. How It Works Focus monitors ad placements and video players, muting and fast-forwarding ads while hiding overlay promotions. If YouTube detects ad-blocking, the extension can auto-reload the page to bypass restrictions. 4. Donation Overlay: Support Development Effortlessly What It Does A brief, friendly overlay appears during video playback, inviting satisfied users to support the extension’s development via a donation link. 5.The extension implements two convenient keyboard shortcuts for quick toggling of its core features. Pressing Q instantly activates/deactivates Dark Mode, which hides distracting elements like sidebars and comments while making the video player fullscreen for a focused viewing experience. The W key controls the Red Screen feature, applying or removing a customizable red overlay to reduce eye strain during nighttime viewing. These shortcuts are smartly designed to ignore input when users are typing in text fields, and they provide immediate visual feedback while saving the state to ensure consistency across browser sessions. The implementation includes robust error handling to maintain functionality even if the extension context becomes invalid, making the shortcuts both user-friendly and technically reliable. Why You’ll Love It Non-Disruptive: The overlay appears for just 1.5 seconds and fades away automatically. Optional Contribution: Donations are entirely voluntary but deeply appreciated. Transparent: All proceeds go toward improving Focus and adding new features.
