Scan Figma files into a design system: create Figma variables, generate design tokens, audit, and export — all free. Atomize is a free Figma plugin that scans an existing file and turns it into a working design system — creating Figma variables, generating design tokens, running a full design system audit, and exporting everything to code. It's built for teams who already have a file and need to bring it under control, rather than building a token system from a blank page — a free alternative to Tokens Studio for that specific problem. 🎯 Perfect for: ➜ Designers ➜ Design system leads ➜ Front-end engineers ➜ Teams cleaning up a legacy file ⭐ Key features: 🔹 Scan a selection or full page and create variables (Primitives → Atoms) automatically 🔹 Find & Replace variable references across a collection in one click 🔹 Export tokens to JSON (DTCG), CSS, SCSS, or Tailwind, with an instant preview 🔹 Import tokens from a JSON file with automatic DTCG / flat-format detection 🔹 Run a Coverage Audit to catch fills, strokes, spacing, and radii with no variable attached 🔹 Clean up unused variables that no longer bind to any node 🔹 Bulk rename variables by text or regex, with a visual old → new diff 🔹 Compare variable usage between two pages with Token Diff 🔹 Sync tokens to GitHub, plus a cloud Token Library and Cross-File Sync 🚀 How it works: select a frame or open a page in Figma, run Scan Selection or Scan Page, then review the extracted primitives and atoms before confirming. Atomize deduplicates colors, spacing, radii, and typography values and creates them as variables — no manual re-creation needed. From there, run a Coverage Audit or Bulk Rename to keep the collection consistent, and export to code whenever you're ready. ⚖️ Variables vs. styles: styles can't reference each other or be aliased. Variables can — which is what makes a primitive-to-semantic token structure possible. Atomize's scan builds exactly that: primitives at the base, semantic atoms aliased on top. Everything above is free — Scan & Create, Find & Replace, Export/Import, Coverage Audit, Cleanup, Bulk Rename, Token Diff, Token Library, GitHub Sync, Team Management, and Cross-File Sync, with no subscription required. 🧾 Questions & Answers ❓ Are variables the same as design tokens? 💡 They overlap. Variables are Figma's native data structure; design tokens are the same values expressed in a portable format that code can consume. Atomize creates the variables and exports the identical values as design tokens in JSON (DTCG), CSS, SCSS, or Tailwind. ❓ Why use variables instead of styles? 💡 Styles can't be aliased to each other, so they can't express a primitive-to-semantic structure. Variables can — Atomize's Scan & Create builds that structure automatically. ❓ How do I convert an existing Figma file to variables without doing it by hand? 💡 Run Scan Selection or Scan Page. Atomize extracts colors, spacing, radii, and typography values from your layers, deduplicates them, and creates the result as variables. ❓ What's the difference between a variable and a variant? 💡 Variants are a component's states (size, disabled, hover, etc.). Variables are reusable values bound to properties across a file. Atomize only touches variables — it never modifies variants. ❓ Can I generate semantic tokens automatically? 💡 Yes — Atomize creates a two-tier structure of primitives and semantic atoms aliased to them, directly from a scan. ❓ How does this compare to Tokens Studio? 💡 Tokens Studio is built for authoring tokens from scratch. Atomize is built for the opposite: a file that already exists and needs its values extracted, turned into variables, and audited. ❓ Can I export tokens for use in code? 💡 Yes — export any collection to JSON (DTCG), CSS custom properties, SCSS, or Tailwind config, with an in-UI preview before you copy or download. ❓ Can I sync with GitHub? 💡 Yes — GitHub Sync pushes a token collection to a repository and pulls updates back, with the access token encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and the format, branch, and path configurable. ❓ Do I need a subscription? 💡 No — every feature listed above is free.
