Search locally indexed text on sites you authorize, then return to the matching open or recently closed page. Remember a sentence from a page but not which tab contains it? Tab Lens incrementally captures visible text from open pages on websites you explicitly authorize and builds a lightweight local index. The workflow is intentionally small: 1. On first use, choose title/URL-only mode or explicitly authorize HTTP(S) websites in one Chrome prompt. 2. Press Command + Shift + S (Ctrl + Shift + S on Windows and Linux). 3. Search by title, URL, literal page text, or a label you created. 4. Verify the real matching snippet, then press Enter or click to return to the existing page. What Tab Lens does: - Searches visible literal text on authorized pages and shows the real text around each match. - Also searches titles, URLs, hostname labels, and exact-page labels. - Focuses an existing Chrome tab instead of creating a duplicate. - Restores an individual recently closed page only when Chrome still exposes it and the local index is eligible. - Supports list and grid layouts, English and Chinese, and light and dark themes. - Never bulk-activates, refreshes, reloads, or wakes background tabs just to search. Privacy: Captured page text and labels stay in local storage in the current Chrome profile. Tab Lens has no account, backend, or cloud sync. It does not sell or share browsing data or use it for advertising, remote analytics, or model training. Website access is granted only after you choose the authorization action and accept Chrome's prompt. You can revoke that access in Chrome; Tab Lens then excludes and removes body text no longer covered by a remaining permission. Beta limitations: Canvas content, inaccessible cross-origin frames, content not yet rendered by a virtual list, and pages Chrome does not allow extensions to read may not be indexed. A page that cannot be read completely is not marked as covered.
