Hands downloads to Steady, which resumes them when your connection does not. Steady catches large downloads from your browser and hands them to the Steady application on your computer, which fetches them in several parts and picks them up again when your connection drops. What it does: When you start a download, this extension notices it and passes it to Steady instead of letting the browser handle it. Steady opens several connections to fetch it faster, keeps a journal as it goes, and resumes from where it stopped if your connection fails or you close the app, rather than starting the file again from nothing. Your browser's session comes with it, so downloads from sites you are signed in to work the same way they did before. Small downloads are left alone: By default, anything under 1 MB stays with the browser, where the overhead of resuming is not worth it. You can change that threshold, or turn the handover off entirely, from the extension's toolbar button. Downloads that cannot be safely handed over are also left alone: files served from blob or data URLs, and downloads that began as a form submission, since those cannot be requested again from their address. What you need: Steady for Windows, which is what actually performs the download. This extension does nothing on its own. It is the bridge between your browser and that application. Privacy: There are no servers and no accounts. Nothing is collected, and nothing is sent anywhere except to Steady on your own machine and to the site you are downloading from. The extension stores only your two settings above.
