Select Japanese text on any webpage to instantly break sentences into words, detect grammar patterns, and look up definitions. Read Japanese anywhere on the web without breaking your flow. News articles, Wikipedia, blog posts, social media, documentation — select any Japanese text you find, and a small button appears right above your selection. One click either breaks the sentence into words or opens the full dictionary entry on 2hongo.com. No more copying text into a separate dictionary tab and losing your place. ■ How it works Select Japanese text on any page and a floating button appears above your selection. It only shows up for Japanese text, so it stays out of your way everywhere else. Three ways to use it: Click the floating button above your selection Right-click the selection and choose "Break down Japanese text with 2hongo" Press Command+Shift+J (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+J (Windows, Linux) ■ Three modes Auto (default) — a word-length selection opens the word page; a longer one is broken down as a sentence. Most of the time you never have to think about it. Breakdown — always split the selection into words. Lookup — always jump straight to the word page. Switch modes anytime from the toolbar icon, or turn the floating button off entirely and use the shortcut alone. ■ What you get Sentence breakdown: Every word separated and clickable, conjugated forms included Grammar patterns detected in place, with JLPT level, meaning, how the pattern is formed, and example sentences Word highlighting and grammar highlighting, each toggleable Word details: Readings and alternative spellings JLPT level and frequency Meanings with part-of-speech, field, and usage tags Example sentences where every word is clickable too Synonyms, antonyms, and related noun / verb / adjective forms Full conjugation tables for verbs Pronunciation audio and saving to your notebook, with a free account ■ Who it is for Anyone reading Japanese news, Wikipedia, or social media slightly above their level JLPT learners from N5 to N1 who want to know why a sentence is built the way it is Anyone who has abandoned a paragraph because looking up four words took ten minutes ■ Languages The extension follows your browser language: English, 日本語, 简体中文, 繁體中文. ■ Privacy The extension reads the text you select, and acts on it only when you click the button, use the right-click menu, or press the shortcut. That selection is sent to 2hongo.com to be analyzed; nothing else is collected. Your mode and floating-button settings stay on your own device. Access to all sites is required for one reason: Japanese text can turn up on any site. Free to install. Breaking down text and looking up words need no account. A free 2hongo account adds pronunciation audio and your notebook.
