AI webpage translator by Syntagma. Literary text and image translation on your Gemini, OpenAI or Claude key. Free, no account. LEXA — Smart AI Translator for Web Pages, Webtoons, and Manga (Bring Your Own Key) Translate articles, documentation, comics, and images without dry machine literalism, subscription extortion, or overpaying. --- 🔥 The essentials of LEXA in 10 seconds LEXA is a free Google Chrome extension from the Syntagma team that turns your browser into a flexible platform for smart, literary translation. We are not selling you "just another $20/month subscription." LEXA works on the BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) principle: you connect your own API key from Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, DeepSeek, or even a free local Ollama — and you only pay the provider directly for the tokens you consume. Or you pay nothing at all. - No accounts or registrations: You don't need to create a profile to use LEXA. - No hidden fees: The extension doesn't charge for "proxy servers" or markup token prices. - Absolute privacy: Your key is stored locally in your Chrome browser and never sent to our servers. - Honest literary translation: Keeps the original layout intact, supports custom name glossaries, and allows fine-tuning of the AI's voice. --- 💡 Why regular translators annoy you (and how LEXA fixes this) Most browser translators fall into one of two extremes: 1. Google Translate and Chrome Translate: They are free but produce stiff, word-for-word translations. They break context, turn light novel character names into a mess, and output gibberish for rare languages. 2. Commercial AI Translators: They translate well, but extort $15–30 monthly in return. Meanwhile, under the hood, they route your requests through cheap models, cut your limits, and make you pay for thin air. We built LEXA for ourselves because we were tired of this system. With LEXA, you get absolute control: - Your key — your model. Want the lightning-fast and cheap Gemini Flash? Go ahead. Need the deep reasoning of Claude 3.5 Sonnet for a scientific paper? Choose it. Want total isolation without internet access? Run Ollama on your local computer. - Your prompt — your tone. Give the neural network a character: from a strict technical documentarian to a lively translator of Asian fiction. --- ⚡ Product separation: LEXA and Syntagma Just to avoid any confusion: - LEXA is a client extension for your browser. A free tool for reading web pages. - Syntagma (syntagma.app) is our company's separate B2B platform for team collaboration (chat, video calls, tasks, knowledge base built on a native C++ core). Installing LEXA does not create a personal account for you in Syntagma.app and requires nothing from you. It is a standalone tool made by our engineering team. --- 🛠️ What LEXA can do: Full feature overview 1. Smart text translation without breaking the layout LEXA doesn't dump the entire page into a single request. It carefully slices the text into logical segments, considers the context of neighboring paragraphs, sends them to the model in batches, and seamlessly integrates the translation back into the site's original layout. Two reading modes are available: - Replace: The original text is hidden, and vibrant translated text appears in its place. The page looks as if it were originally written in your language. - Bilingual: The translation sits neatly right below the original. Hovering over a phrase reveals the source text. Perfect for language learning, reading contracts, API documentation, and dealing with ambiguous phrasing. 2. Smart translation of images, memes, and webtoons Text lives in more than just letters. Slides, UI screenshots, diagrams, and Korean webtoons that are 10 screens high — LEXA can translate images separately. How it works without turning into an unreadable mess: If you feed a long webtoon into a neural network entirely, the text will compress and become illegible. LEXA intelligently slices long image strips into overlapping pieces, sends them to a vision model, erases the original text, and neatly writes the translation back onto the layer. - Junk filter: LEXA doesn't burn your tokens on 16x16 px icons and decorative elements. - Trigger options: You can set images to translate automatically or trigger translation for specific images via the context menu. 3. Glossary and Names (Forget about inconsistent names) The biggest pain of machine translation is when a hero is called "Black Dragon" in chapter 1, "Dark Serpent" in chapter 5, and just "Bob" in chapter 10. In LEXA, you can set a strict Glossary for a specific site: "On this domain, the word Sprint is always translated as Спринт, and the MC's name is always Kai." For the model, this is not a recommendation; it's a strict law. The glossary can be managed manually or loaded via a file. 4. Tone and Character Settings (Preferences) Set introductory instructions for your translator: - "Don't smooth out slang and profanity" - "The author of this blog speaks to the reader informally" - "Keep programming terms in English" 5. Full control over the prompt You can rewrite the model's system instruction from scratch. You have convenient placeholders at your disposal: {target_language}, {glossary}, {page_title}, {context}. Need a dry legal style? Just edit the prompt in the settings. 6. Typography and Reading Comfort The translation should be easy on the eyes. Customize it for yourself: - Line spacing and paragraph spacing. - Font size, weight, and family (including special accessibility fonts like OpenDyslexic). - Page color schemes: soft cream, sepia, dark mode, or the site's original scheme. --- 🔌 Supported Providers and Models LEXA works with any engine that provides an API. You are not locked into a single vendor. - Major Cloud Providers: Direct support for Google Gemini, OpenAI (GPT-4o/GPT-4o-mini), Anthropic Claude, DeepSeek, and more. - Local Models (100% Privacy): Works with local runtimes like Ollama and LM Studio directly on your PC without internet access or API keys. - Cloud API Hubs & Aggregators: Compatible with all major third-party API routers and model hosting services. - Custom Endpoints: Connect any personal, enterprise, or self-hosted server supporting the standard `/v1/chat/completions` protocol. --- 🔐 Privacy and Security We believe that an extension shouldn't be spyware. 1. Your key is locked in your browser: Your API key is stored exclusively in your Chrome profile's chrome.storage.local. It is never transmitted to Syntagma servers; we don't see it or collect it. 2. No tracking: We do not collect analytics on what sites you read, what manga you translate, or how much time you spend online. 3. Direct requests: The request containing the page text goes directly from your browser to your chosen provider's endpoint (to Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, or your 127.0.0.1). Security Tip: If you are working in a private banking portal or a closed corporate environment with personal data — simply disable image translation for that domain in the site rules. --- 🚀 How to get started in 60 seconds 1. Install the LEXA extension from the Chrome Web Store. 2. Click the LEXA icon on your browser toolbar and go to Settings. 3. Select a provider (e.g., Google Gemini). 4. Paste your API key (a link to get a free key is right there in the settings window). 5. Click "Test". If the status turns green — you're all set! 6. Open any foreign website and press Alt + Shift + T (or flip the toggle in the menu). --- ❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1. Is the extension really free? What's the catch? The extension is 100% free. There is no catch. We develop the B2B platform Syntagma, and LEXA is our gift to the community and a showcase of our engineering culture. You only pay the model providers for tokens (if you are using paid keys). 2. Can I use LEXA completely for free? Yes! Google Gemini offers generous free limits in Google AI Studio, which is more than enough for most people's daily reading. Alternatively, you can run local models via Ollama absolutely for free. 3. Do I need a Syntagma account? No. An account on syntagma.app is not required. 4. Does LEXA translate PDF files or YouTube videos? - PDF: If a PDF is opened as a regular web page (HTML text), LEXA will translate it. The heavy built-in PDF viewer in Chrome is isolated, so it's more reliable to copy the text or open it in a standard layout. - YouTube: LEXA translates text on the page and text subtitles if they are rendered in the DOM. The extension does not transcribe the actual audio stream of the video. 5. What if the translation doesn't start? - Check your key using the "Test" button in the settings. - Verify if you have exhausted your limit/quota on your provider's account (the free Gemini limit often runs out with frequent requests). - Remember that for security reasons, the Chrome browser forbids any content scripts from running on internal chrome:// pages and inside the Web Store itself. --- 🏢 About the Developer This extension was developed by SYNTAGMA EDTECH LLC (Yerevan, Armenia). - Official Website: https://syntagma.app - Company LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/syntagma-app - Direct contact with the founder (Telegram): @syntagmator Note: SYNTAGMA EDTECH LLC is not affiliated with syntagma.mk, MonetaApp, or any B2C course marketplaces.
