Restore photo dates & GPS for use with Google Takeout™ exports — repairs your JPEG metadata locally, on your device. Restores photo dates and GPS location from Google Takeout™ JSON files back into your photos — 100% on your device. This extension is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google or any other third party. Your photos, file names, and metadata are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. The only server it contacts is our payment provider, ExtensionPay, to check or activate a Pro purchase. Use only with data you are authorized to access. WHY YOU NEED THIS Made for use with Google Takeout™ photo exports. When you download your photo library, the capture date and GPS location of each photo are saved into a small .json file next to it — not always into the photo file itself. Copy those photos to a new computer, a NAS, or another photo app, and they sort under the wrong date, with no location. This extension reads the .json sidecar files and writes the dates and coordinates back where they belong. HOW IT WORKS 1. Select — drop your export ZIP files (multiple ZIPs, tens of gigabytes) or pick an already-unpacked folder. No unzipping needed: the extension reads inside the ZIPs directly, so you never need double the disk space. 2. Preview — a free dry run scans everything you selected and shows exactly how many photos can get their dates and GPS back, before you commit to anything. 3. Fix — choose an output folder. Restored copies are written there, mirroring your folder structure. Your original files are never touched. WHAT GETS WRITTEN (no more, no less) - JPEG (.jpg / .jpeg): dates and GPS coordinates are embedded into the file's EXIF metadata. - PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC, and video (.mp4 / .mov): copied to the output folder unchanged, with their dates and GPS values listed in the CSV report. Nothing is embedded in these files in this version. - Dates are written in UTC. - Photos that already have an embedded date keep it — only missing values are filled in. (An overwrite option exists; it is off by default.) - Media without a matching .json file is copied as-is and listed in the report, so nothing silently disappears. - If a file fails, it is skipped and logged; the run keeps going and finishes with a full success/skip/error summary you can save as CSV. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything runs inside your browser, on your device. Your photos are never uploaded. The only server this extension contacts is the payment provider (ExtensionPay), to check or activate a Pro purchase — none of your files, file names, or metadata are sent anywhere.
