It ships with online neural voices in 74 languages and an on-device engine that keeps working when you are offline — you choose which one speaks. ✨ Key Features: • Smart Content Extraction: Automatically extracts article content while stripping away ads, sidebars, and clutter. • Multi-format Document Support: Read web pages, Google Docs, Word Online, PDF documents, Word DOCX files, and EPUB e-books — all with auto-resume, by chapter for EPUB and by page for PDF and DOCX. • Word Online & Google Docs, no sign-in: Open a document on OneDrive, SharePoint, or Google Docs and press Play. Read Current Web Page / Article: - Open any web page or article. - Click the readit.dev icon in your toolbar (or use keyboard shortcut) and hit "Play". - To hear it in another language, press "Translate and read" instead. Pick the language under "Translate into" in the Configuration card. 2. Read Selected Text: - Highlight any text on a page. - Click the quick floating button or right-click and select "Read with readit.dev". 3. Read Pasted Text (Manual Reader): - Open the readit.dev Side Panel. - Paste your custom text into the input field and press "Play". 4. Read EPUB, PDF, DOCX, Google Docs & Word Online: - For PDF / DOCX / EPUB: Open the Document Reader from the extension menu/Side Panel and pick a file from your computer. EPUB books chain chapter by chapter; PDF and DOCX step page by page. Whichever you pick, closing the tab keeps your place — reopen and continue where you stopped. (Legacy Word .doc files are not supported; save them as .docx.) - For Google Docs: Open your doc tab and click "Play" to extract and read plain text instantly. - For Word Online: Open a Word document from OneDrive or SharePoint and click "Play". If the document cannot be downloaded — a view-only file, or an expired session — you get a clear message instead of silence. 5. Manage Playlist Queue: - Open Side Panel, click "+ Add current tab" or right-click any link and select "Add to Queue". - Click "Play Queue" for continuous hands-free listening. 6. Export MP3 & Settings: - Export MP3: Click the download/export icon on the player to save audio locally. - Custom Voices & Pronunciation: Open Settings to adjust speech speed, switch voice styles/themes, and configure your custom pronunciation dictionary. 🔒 Privacy First: All speech synthesis and text parsing happen entirely on your local machine. readit.dev never collects, stores, or transmits what you read.
