Rewrite text in any input field: rephrase, change tone, shorten, expand or fix grammar, using the AI provider you choose. Rewrite what you are typing, right where you are typing it. AI Text Rephraser adds a small ✦ button to any input, textarea or rich-text field on any website, so you can polish an email, a comment, a ticket or a chat message without leaving the page. You choose the AI that does the work. Bring your own key for OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude or OpenRouter, or point the extension at a model running on your own machine through Ollama, LM Studio or your own MCP endpoint. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Rephrase — a cleaner version of the same idea • Make Formal — for email, clients and management • Make Casual — for chat and social • Make Concise — cut the padding, keep the point • Expand — turn a short note into a fuller paragraph • Fix Grammar & Spelling — corrections only, no rewriting THREE WAYS TO USE IT 1. In a text field — focus any input and a ✦ button appears. Click it, pick a mode, and the text is replaced in place. 2. On a selection — select text anywhere, right-click, and choose a mode from the "AI Rephraser" menu. 3. From the toolbar popup — paste text, pick a mode, and copy the result. Saving a provider in Settings runs a real test request first, so you know the configuration works before you rely on it. YOUR KEYS AND YOUR TEXT There is no account, no backend server and no telemetry. Your API key is stored in Chrome's own extension storage and is only ever sent to the provider you configured. The text you rephrase goes directly from your browser to that provider and nowhere else — this extension's developer never receives it. If you would rather nothing left your machine at all, use Ollama or LM Studio and everything stays local. PERMISSIONS, AND WHY THEY ARE NEEDED • contextMenus — adds the right-click "AI Rephraser" menu. • storage — saves your provider choice, model and key. • activeTab and scripting — activates the ✦ button on a tab only when you open the popup or use the right-click menu there, and reads/writes the text in the field you are editing. The extension does not run on pages you have not invoked it on. • Host access to the AI provider you configure — used only to send the text you asked to rewrite and to read back the result. If you point the extension at a model on your own machine, it asks for permission to reach that specific address the first time you save it in Settings.
