Carbon Canvas is a privacy-first browser extension that tracks your AI usage and estimates its environmental impact—energy consumption, carbon emissions, and water usage, all grounded in peer-reviewed research. Every time you use ChatGPT or Claude, Carbon Canvas automatically detects the session and logs it. No manual tracking. No extra work. The extension estimates energy consumed (kWh), carbon emitted (grams CO₂e), water used (litres), conversation patterns, and prompting efficiency—all without ever reading your prompts or conversations. Why this matters: Every AI query requires real infrastructure—servers, electricity, water for cooling. That environmental cost has always existed. You just couldn't see it. Carbon Canvas makes it visible so you can make informed choices: refine prompts for efficiency, batch questions, or simply know what you're using. Privacy first: Your prompts, conversations, and files never leave your device. We only track metadata—the shape of your usage, never the substance. All data stays local. Cloud sync is optional and fully controlled by you. Your dashboard shows daily footprint, weekly trends, lifetime stats, efficiency scores (0-100), and charts for energy, carbon, water, and usage patterns.
