Turns the audio of the lecture tab into live captions on your device, and keeps your notes and screenshots beside them. SideNote is a study note tool that brings captions, notes, and screen captures together in one place while you watch online lectures. Features ■ Real-time Captions SideNote captures the audio from the tab you are currently watching and converts it into captions in real time. You can start, pause, resume, and stop captioning whenever you want. Captions are added continuously and automatically scroll as new text appears. If you scroll up to review previous content, auto-scrolling pauses. Once you return to the bottom, automatic scrolling resumes. You can also copy the entire transcript at once. ■ Captions Over Video If you prefer, you can display captions directly over the video, similar to YouTube subtitles, so you can read them while watching. ■ Capture + Notes for That Moment Click [Capture] to save the screen you are currently viewing. If a video is playing, SideNote automatically crops the capture to the video area and saves the video’s current playback time, such as 12:34. Each capture can have its own note, so your thoughts about a specific scene stay connected to that exact moment. General notes for the entire lecture are saved automatically. ■ Separate Notes for Each Video When you move to a different video, SideNote automatically starts a new caption session. Captions from different videos are never mixed together on the same screen. Your previous captions, notes, and captures remain saved under [History], so you can reopen them at any time. ■ Everything Stays Saved Your captions, notes, and captures remain available even if you refresh the browser or close and reopen the SideNote panel. When you return to the same lecture page, you can continue using the same note. ■ Your Data Stays on Your Device Speech recognition is processed locally on your computer using Chrome’s built-in on-device speech recognition. Your audio, captions, notes, and screen captures are not sent to external servers. Start playing a lecture video. 2. Click the SideNote icon while you are on that tab. The SideNote panel will open on the right. 3. Click [Start Captions]. When Chrome asks for permission to share the tab’s audio, allow it. ■ Notes · On first use, you may need to wait briefly while Chrome downloads the required speech recognition language pack. · Captions are generated automatically and may not be 100% accurate. Please use them as a study aid. · Captions cannot be generated from tabs with no audio or from chrome:// pages. · Chrome 139 or later is required.
