Page & Passage is a calm, focused word counter for writers, students, and anyone working with text online. Highlight a passage, then open the toolbar popup, use the keyboard shortcut, or choose “Count words in selected text” from the right-click menu. Toolbar counting also works where a webpage disables right-click, provided the text is selectable and accessible to Chrome extensions. DOCUMENT VIEWERS Supported text-based PDF and DOCX viewers expose selections to the extension. Chrome’s built-in PDF viewer protects its selection from toolbar scripts: use the selection’s right-click command when available, or copy your passage into the popup’s explicit paste field. Image-only scans and protected or canvas-only viewers may require a selectable text view or manual paste. The page label counts loaded webpage text and is not necessarily a complete embedded-document count. PRIVATE BY DESIGN All counting happens locally in your browser. No accounts, ads, analytics, or server uploads. The extension does not automatically read your clipboard or save your passages. GET STARTED 1. Pin Page & Passage to Chrome’s toolbar. 2. Highlight the text you want to count. 3. Click the icon, press Ctrl+Shift+K (Command+Shift+K on Mac), or use the selection’s right-click menu. Allow site access for the relevant page and iframe domains. Local files additionally require “Allow access to file URLs” in Chrome’s extension settings.
