Description
Never confuse staging for production. Environment ribbons, frames and marquees that overlay any page without changing its layout. Beacon makes it impossible to mistake which environment a browser tab is on. You give it rules — URL patterns mapped to environments — and it paints that environment over the page: a corner ribbon, a viewport frame, a scrolling marquee, a watermark, a status pill, a tab-title prefix, and more. Every marker is an overlay. Beacon never adds padding to the page, never shifts the scrollbar, and never changes what the page does. WHY IT EXISTS Deleting a record on production because the tab looked like staging is a bad afternoon. Most "environment ribbon" extensions add a border to the page body, which reflows layouts and breaks sticky headers. Beacon renders everything in a closed shadow root layered above the page, so your app looks exactly as it did. WHAT YOU GET • Rules, matched top to bottom, first match wins. Wildcards, ports, paths and regular expressions are all supported. • A live match tester — paste a URL and see which rule claims it. • Pattern suggestions. Paste one URL from a multi-tenant platform, like advantageflood.uat1.example.com, and Beacon proposes *.uat1.example.com so a single rule covers every tenant, including ones added later. • Marker Studio — 17 marker types with live preview: corner ribbon at any angle, viewport frame, edge bar (float or push), marquee, perimeter marquee, hazard tape, watermark, edge glow with corner LEDs, typographic rail, draggable pill, sticky note, rubber stamp, status dock, mascot, favicon dot and title prefix. • Marker text takes tokens you insert by clicking their name - Environment, Short code and Site address on any marker, Page title on the tab-title markers, and Branch, Build and User once the status dock is supplying them. • A status dock that reads branch, build and user from a JSON endpoint or a meta tag, so you can see what is actually deployed. • A guard layer — the one marker that intervenes. Choose what it asks on (the CSS selectors you list, every button, or every click) and how hard it is to pass: type the environment code, or a single Continue. It can offer a "don't ask again" that always expires, and the popup can re-arm it. • Per-tab snooze, a master on/off shortcut, and per-marker switches in the popup. • Export and import rules as JSON so a whole team shares one configuration. DESIGNED TO BE QUIET WHERE IT MATTERS Production ships silent by design. A marker that shouts on production trains people to ignore markers. Production's value is the guard, not the noise. Beacon also respects your system "reduced motion" setting: markers keep their colour and text and stop animating. PRIVACY Beacon has no server, no analytics and no accounts. Your rules are stored in your own browser profile and sync through your own browser account. Nothing is collected, and nothing is sent anywhere. The only network request Beacon can make is the status dock's version endpoint — and only if you configure one. It goes to the site you are already visiting, to read the build info you asked it to display.
